Smart Node in the Internet of Lights – SNIOL

SNIOL – Smart Node in the Internet of Lights

Developing an Integrated Smart Node for the Internet of Lights

Having a highly skilled development department allows us to compete for financing from funds. We have signed an agreement with the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology on co-

funding the project Smart Node in the Internet of Lights: Internet Connectivity for Smart Lights (SNIOL). The project will be funded by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union from the

European Regional Development Fund. Find out more about Slovenia’s cohesion policy at www.eu-skladi.si.

The main purpose of the SNIOL project is to develop a smart node for Internet of Lights systems that can be integrated into smart lights i.e. developing an innovative optical sensor (based on the IP camera technology), and effectively and uniquely integrating it into LED lights. We will also develop and integrate into the system original innovative algorithms for processing the images and for connecting the lights, the monitoring system and the internet. We have set the following project goals:

  • developing a smart light with an integrated system for detecting anomalies in traffic. Data will be processed in integrated systems and only telemetry data will be transferred to the central system. The system will be able to detect vehicles breaking traffic rules and road users jeopardizing road safety with their actions, as well as traffic density, accidents and broken down vehicles, and initiate the appropriate response in the event of critical events.
  • developing smart lights for health and care facilities. Integrated electronics will be able to detect the movement of patients or care recipients and their vital functions (breathing, heart rate,
  • biometrics, etc.).
  • developing smart lights for shopping centers. The integrated system will be able to capture data on the frequency of shoppers in individual isles in shopping centers, stores and all other places,
  • where users can select between different items. They will capture data on the stock on the shelves, customers’ choices and movements, queues, etc., which can help make decisions on the placement of products, manage queues, and adjust marketing messages etc.
  • developing smart lights for parking garages. The integrated system will support detecting empty parking spots and vehicle movements, and directing vehicles to empty parking spots, as well as controlling the atmosphere in the parking garage (lighting, air quality, traffic density, bottlenecks, charging of the parking fee, etc.).
